Thun Family Grants

FOSTER PRIDE

Since 1993, Foster Pride has been helping youths in New York City foster care develop their talent and self-esteem through mentoring relationships and the arts. My friend and colleague is one of their board members and mentors, and I (Pete Muhlenberg) have seen firsthand the amazing work that they do, having had the opportunity to work with a young man who is a Foster Pride “graduate.”

When I read about the family grants program, I thought that it was a great opportunity to help a deserving organization. Thanks to a generous $15,000 grant from The Wyomissing Foundation, Foster Pride was able to sustain the I Made It Myself program, providing 40 weeks of visual-literacy-based art programs to 50 children aged 5-14. In these weekly workshops, students have fun exploring different art activities, from painting to fashion design, while also developing important skills that transfer to classroom curriculum. At the conclusion of each year, students and their families celebrate their talents with art shows around the city. Past shows have been at the National Arts Club and Rockefeller Center.

MOSAIC PROJECT

The Wyomissing Foundation’s Family Grants Program has generously supported The Mosaic Project’s corporate training division, the Mosaic Consulting Project (MCP). With the Foundation’s support, Mosaic’s business manager has fine tuned diversity and team-building trainings and strengthened partnerships with several corporations, most notably Gap Inc. By supporting MCP in the early development stage, The Wyomissing Foundation is ensuring that MCP will help to fund Mosaic’s In-School and Outdoor School programs for 4th- and 5th-graders for many years to come.

CONNECTICUT MIRROR

Because he is passionate about high-quality journalism, family member Tom Scheffey supported a grant to partially fund a panel and public discourse series on education proposed by The CT Mirror online news source. A three-part series featuring elected officials, academics, and educators, the symposia addressed issues facing education at the local, state and national levels. All sessions were filmed to be hosted online to gain maximum audience and impact.
